Unleashed is led by Notre Dame undergraduate and graduate students

Thomas Flaim - Co-Founder and President

Tommy’s interest in impact investing started the summer of 2013 during his internship at Ayco, a Goldman Sachs Company, while reading about a Social Impact Bond (SIB) that Goldman Sachs was investing in related to early childhood education. Within a few days, an account manager and alum of Notre Dame handed him a magazine from Notre Dame with an article quoting the dean of Mendoza, Notre Dame’s top-rated business school, saying that he wanted Notre Dame and Mendoza to emerge as a leader in this field that is primed to take off. Shortly after starting Unleashed, he attended the 2013 SRI Conference in Colorado Springs where he networked and made many lasting connections with professionals in the field of impact investing. This past fall, he traveled to Colorado to attend “investor days” at Unreasonable Institute, an incubator for social enterprises based in Denver, where he looked for investments that teams could use to present for the pitch competition. Tommy also participated in the McCloskey Business Plan Competition with Reading for Life (RFL), serving as their expert on Social Impact Bonds (SIBs). RFL received $20,000 and several awards after being selected as one of six finalists. When not working on Unleashed or related activities, he can be found on the soccer field with Notre Dame’s club soccer team or at a local South Bend school where he tutors kids. Tommy is very optimistic about the future of impact investing at Notre Dame!

Spencer Castillo - President of Social Venture Capital Division

Spencer is a member of the Men’s Club Volleyball team, Club Coordination Council, and Student International Business Council. His interests in community service and the finance industry led to his involvement in Unleashed. Spencer can be credited for recognizing the need for further development in knowledge prior to playing an active role in the management of a potential fund dedicated to impact investing, thus creating the pitch competition. He developed his financial knowledge through both of his internships at VR Capital and DLK Investments. His hobbies include beach volleyball, golfing, and body-surfing.

Megan Mannifield - Co-President of Social Enterprise Consulting Division

Megan is very passionate about economic empowerment and global development, especially through the creation of smart and creative business models. She is interested in pursuing a career in business, but in the capacity of being a positive force on society. She is actively involved in Unleashed, by holding a leadership role in both the Social Enterprise Consulting and Social Venture Capital divisions. Apart from Unleashed, Megan is a student manager for Notre Dame's Starbucks, a participant in many of the Center for Social Concerns' programs and enjoys running the Saint Joseph and Saint Mary's lakes. She strongly believes in the power of impact investing and is very excited to see Unleashed's potential unfold.

Anton (Tony) Auerbach - Co-President of Social Enterprise Consulting Division

Tony was drawn to Unleashed because of its impact investing mission, which is not only informative, but interactive. He believes that Unleashed allows him to infuse his two majors and is a tool to bring good out of business. Tony has had a passion for international development and has worked before in Germany and China. He is writing his capstone project on the effectiveness of some microfinance programs and takeaways for future international economic development. Post-graduation, he will be serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
